Welcome to Bite Sizes!
What started out as a food blog is slowly turning into a collection of my random life obsessions, whether it’s a new workout phenomenon, low key weekend getaways, or a fun new recipe. But don’t worry, there will still be plenty of food posts in the future. A girl’s gotta eat 🙂
A little about me:
I live in New York City, but was raised in the good ole’ South. Surprisingly, no Southern accent (sorry folks – my college roommates were disappointed too). Much as I’ve adopted this city as my own, I suppose I’m still not quite a true “New Yorker.” I actually sleep – a lot. But mostly on the weekends, because even though it’s been a few* years since I graduated college, my body still hasn’t realized that 1am is not a good bedtime when you wake up at 6am. I am addicted to coffee, and do not truly feel alive until I’ve had my first double shot of espresso (maybe I am more of a New Yorker than I thought…). I love puttering around in my apartment, opening the fridge just to see what’s in there, even though I just did it ten minutes ago (you never know). I also can’t help buying small objects, and get really excited when I actually find a use for them. Does one really need a mortar and pestle small enough to fit in the palm of your hand? Obviously. And the mini glass jars? Yeah, those are still empty…
And I love food. Like, a lot. In fact, to balance my love for food, I became obsessed with working out. Although to be honest, the swanky amenities (why hello chilled, eucalyptus-scented towels) at my gym is a big part of why I go. Sure, it’s terribly overpriced and I cry a little inside when I see the bill each month, but I just can’t say no. I started learning how to cook when I studied abroad in Copenhagen, when I was a poor student in a super expensive city (the awful exchange rate at the time didn’t help). I generally try to cook healthier food, but sometimes you just need a lot of butter and sugar in your life – and that’s okay 🙂 I cook with Splenda (sorry to the legitimate bakers…), take shortcuts, and am more than okay with not making everything from scratch. Much as I love cooking and feeding people, I want to spend more time eating, so yay for time savers!
And most importantly, let me know if you have any fitness class suggestions, pretty obsessions, recipe ideas or hidden gem restaurants you love – I’m always up for trying (or ahem, buying) something new 🙂
*At what point do I have to switch from “a few” to “several” years since I graduated college? …Actually, nevermind, I don’t want to know.
